Russian Ports on the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov

In the south of Russia there are three ports, one of which is located on the Sea of Azov (Taganrog), and two on the Black Sea (Novorossiysk and Tuapse).

The port of Novorossiysk is located on the north-eastern coast of the Black Sea in Novorossiysk bay. The port is open to navigation year-round. Novorossiysk bay is accessible for vessels with a draught up to 19.0 m, the internal water area of the port is accessible for vessels with a draught of up to 12.5 m. The berths of the sea merchant port, wood port, fishery port and geology port are located in the port of Novorossiysk. In total, there are about 80 berths of a total length of 13.5 km.
The commercial seaport is one of the largest in Russia. It has 45 berths (32 for cargo, 10 auxiliary and three passenger berths). Dry cargo, passenger, food, bulk and some of the auxiliary berths are located in the dry cargo harbour of port.
The oil terminal "Shesharis" is located several miles away from the dry cargo port. It includes eight berths located on two piers; water depths along them range from 9.8 m to 24 m. Tankers with a deadweight of up to 250,000 tons are accepted in the port.
The wood port is located in the western part of the dry cargo port. It includes five berths with water depths ranging from 6.8 to 9.7 m. Discharging of saw timbers, round wood, wood-fibre plates, plywood, paper, cellulose, black and nonferrous metals as well as containers is carried out in the wood port.
The fishery port is in close proximity to the wood port; it includes five berths (water depth of 8.2 m). The port specialises in the loading of reefer cargo – fruit, vegetables, fish products and meat.

The port of Tuapse is located on the north-eastern coast of the Black Sea on the territory of Krasnodar Province, at the top of the bay of Tuapse. The approach channel to the port's water area has a length of 400 m, 120 m in width and 13.5 m in depth. The port is accessible for vessels with a draught up to 12 m and a length up to 230 m. The berths of the sea merchant and fishery ports as well as the ship-repair yard are located in the port.
The commercial seaport consists of three specialised zones: dry cargo, oil cargo and passengers. The sea fish port has one berth with a water depth of 5.5 m and open space for temporary storage.
The port is served by the Tuapse railway station of the Northern Caucasian railway.

The port of Taganrog is located on the northern coast of the Sea of Azov in the Gulf of Taganrog. The city is part of the Rostov Province. Even in mild winters, the port is frozen up for at least two months, so ice breakers must be used. The approach channel to the port is 10.1 miles long, has a width of 80 m and a depth of 5.0 m.
The berths for the commercial seaport and the ship-repair yard are located in the port. The commercial seaport consists of five cargo universal berths with water depths ranging from 4.5 to 5.0 m.
In addition, the port has two berths for local passenger transportation.
The port has an open storage space of 4.55 ha with a capacity for approximately 200,000 tons of cargo. There is also a mechanized warehouse of 4,000 m2 with a capacity for 15,000 tons.
The commercial seaport can handle cargo such as black and nonferrous metals, coal, aluminium, ore, containers as well as other general cargo.
The ship-repair yard has three cargo berths, two of which are used for general cargo and one for grain crops and sunflower seeds.
